About the Coastal Sea Kayak Award course
The Coastal Sea Kayak Award is part of the Paddle UK suite of Personal Performance awards. This award is the first stage on the Discipline specific awards for sea kayaking in a moderate water environment. It is the perfect start point for those keen to explore their kayaking skills beyond sheltered paddling and in bigger conditions.
The award will give you confidence in your skills and ownership of your paddling journey. It gives you the control of your personal development allowing you to proceed in confidence.

Through close coaching and mentorship we aim to put a spotlight on emerging skills and and work to develop some mastery. Our experiences coaches will aim to create a personal development plan for each client and shape sessions to help improve and embolden skills and confidence.
The training covers the necessary skills and knowledge to cope paddling a sea kayak in the moderate water environment. Paddling in a maximum of Beaufort F4 winds and tides of up to 2 knots. It includes management of common incidents such as capsizes, self rescues, towing, launching and landing.
We have several ways in which the award content can be taught and assessed. The training can be through continuous coaching sessions with an assessment when you and your coach agree you are ready, or we can condense the training into a weekend with an assessment at the end of that period.
For more information on this award you can visit the Paddles Up Website from Paddle UK for details or download the award description.
