If you’re a paddler that looks on in awe at others performing seamless rescues and you want to learn those skills, this is the session for you.

These sessions introduce you to basic techniques for rescue in a sea kayak allowing you to have some extra tools in your paddling tool box.

The Sea Kayak Safety and Rescue course is designed to give you maximum time on the water working with our coaches to learn and develop your rescue skills. We focus in on opportunities to develop your confidence in being a good rescuer but also being a proactive and informed casualty if the need were to arise.

Attendees should have Sea Kayak Award or be at a comparable level of skill. We can also bolt on the Sea Kayak Award assessment, please contact us for details about bespoke programmes.

The sessions focuse on rescue techniques and the roles of rescuers and causalities, before hitting more dynamic water to look at developing confidence in the use of various techniques, getting plenty of practice in mastering these rescues within a safe environment.

The course covers 8 units designed to be taught over 7 hours. We deliver the course over a 2 day working period so as to add extra opportunities for practicing incident management skills and allowing time for debrief and discussion.

We advise that attendees to the sessions take into account the time of year they book. Early and late season sessions are often during times of then year when water is cold so dry suits are advised. Mid season sessions can often allow paddlers to use wetsuits, however participants will spend a significant time in the water so it is important to dress for this immersion.

Courses are usually held on the East or North Coast of Ireland. We will discuss location closer to the date as this is often dictated by weather.
